MapleStory Classic World Shows New Trailer at IGN Live 2026 — Still “Coming Soon”

5 min read

Global MapleStory Classic World took the stage at IGN Live on June 6, 2026 with a brand-new official trailer. The segment showed off the classic 2D side-scrolling experience fans have been waiting for, but stopped short of the announcement everyone wanted: a launch date. The trailer closes on “coming soon” and nothing more specific.

What the Trailer Confirmed

The trailer reaffirms the project's core promise: MapleStory as it was at launch, rebuilt as a permanent service rather than a limited-time event. Expect the original Victoria Island experience, the four original Explorer classes (Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief), slow meaningful progression, and the party-quest culture of the mid-2000s game, with modern stability, balance adjustments, and quality-of-life upgrades layered on carefully.

Development continues under lead designer Nemi, an original MapleStory developer whose involvement goes back to 2001, with Chief Product Officer Inkwell representing the project publicly.

Why No Date Yet?

Nexon has said one more test is planned before full rollout. The first global Closed Online Test ran April 16–24, 2026 with roughly 5,000 players, and the team is still working through that feedback. Until the final test is announced and completed, a firm launch date is unlikely. The realistic window based on everything announced so far remains late 2026.

The Road So Far

  • April 2025 — Announced at Global MapleStory's 20th Anniversary
  • October 2025 — First public hands-on demo at Maple Con LA
  • January–February 2026 — In-person public testing in Gardena, CA
  • April 16–24, 2026 — Closed Online Test (~5,000 players)
  • May 2026 — Test recap and development roadmap published
  • June 6, 2026 — New trailer at IGN Live; status: “coming soon”

What to Watch Next

The final pre-launch test is the next milestone. Registration for the April test opened about five weeks ahead of the test itself, so when the last test is announced you should expect a similar lead time, and a launch date announcement to follow it.
